so U2 did it again. i'm proud of them. they are definitely worthy recipients. aside from the fact that bono's changing the world, they're still one of the best rock bands ever. i dunno if i necessarily would've given them song of the year, but then again, mariah took home 3 grammy's. so obviously i wouldn't have been in agreement with all the choices that were made anyway. my one question that remains is: what's the difference between "album of the year" and "record of the year?"
in other news, i can't believe the olympics are starting and i've been so completely oblivious to it. i didn't even know until a couple of weeks ago that the winter olympics were going to be in february. i realized at some point during finals that 2006 was upon us and that it thus has to be an olympic year. then i read somewhere about the winter 2006 olympics in turin, but i decided that since i'd heard nothing about it, they must be in december 2006. where i got that idea? -- i don't know.
why don't i know what's going on in the world around me? is it because i don't have a TV? (that would explain why i didn't even know the grammy's were on last night until i checked the news online today). i try to keep up on nytimes.com. but wow. i feel so out of it. and i definitely don't want to get a TV, but i really need to watch ice skating... what am i gonna do?
on an entirely unrelated and somewhat strange note... what's up with all the anonymous comments lately, brian? seriously, how old are you?
Posted by naseem at February 9, 2006 02:04 PMDamn right our boys did it again. Good stuff...the other candidates kinda sucked.
So the diff. between Record Of The Year and Album Of The Year...Record Of The Year is a single, and the artist/producer/engineers receive the award.
Album Of The Year is for the whole album, and again goes to the artist/producer/engineers.
AND THEN - Song Of The Year is goes to the songwriter/composer of the song. So basically NARAS considers 'Record' as being a song...and Song is for the Songwriter. That's why U2 took it down...

Posted by: SamZeb at February 9, 2006 08:16 PMi'm as old as my namesake, but luckily, like george burns, i get funnier with with the passage of time... i'm going to be in "oh god, part iii, playing his role, later this year... anyhow, after the last posts i posted on your website i decided to go anonymous 'cause i got sick of people googling me & pulling that up... and while i realize a first name or glossy moniker would do the trick, i feel anonymity is in keeping with the whole consultative detachment thing...
Posted by: Methuselah at February 9, 2006 09:33 PMBut George Burns isn't funny. :)
Posted by: SamZeb at February 10, 2006 07:21 AMthanks for the info., sam. and i'm glad you're dropping by these days. i need to visit your site more often. :)
Posted by: nas at February 10, 2006 08:53 AMIn fact, up to the point of reading this blog entry I thought the Olympics were in December because I just heard about them for the first time yesterday. I actually had a full conversation about when the Olympics must be, and both me and my friend danio decided it must be at the end of the year. How wrong we were.
