a question

why, pray tell, do all the NYU freshmen walk around wearing shirts that say "NYU class of 2009?"

i mean, why would anyone wanna advertise the fact that he or she is a college freshman? when i was a freshman, i didn't share that piece of information until asked, and i appreciated it when people would often mistake me for a junior or a senior.

i'm fairly certain that not i, nor anyone i knew, would've elected to wear our freshmen status on our t-shirts, for fear of removing all doub that we were, indeed, awkward, clueless kids... i would think that fear would be even more pronounced in the heart of a teeming metropolis full of high-powered cosmopolitan people. but no, the NYU freshmen seem quite undeterred by all of that. they're fresh out of high school and proud of it... interesting, no?

Very interesting. Maybe they're already cosmopolitan and want to flaunt it?

it always weirds me out to see those shirts. i always calculate quickly...okay, i was class of 2001, and they are class of 2009, that means, crap, i'm a lot older than them! i wonder when i'll lose that feeling of just having been in college.

I don't know but I felt pretty confident about going off to college last year. Maybe it was the fact that I already had experienced dorm life and living away from home, maybe it was naivety and I'll realize when I go back how much changes when you are an upperclassman. We had shirts that made it apparent that we were first years, however no one really ever wore them because they were kind of ugly. Also, it's hard not to stick out as a first year when your school's undergrad population is 600.

The newbs seem to get younger and younger every year. I swear, a couple weeks ago, this gaggle of girls looked more like 12 than 18.

Ick. I hate collegiate solidarity.
