adventures at the temple

ok, so i have way too much on my plate to be doing this right now, but i have to document some of the madness of this weekend. hope you find it as laughable as i did...

volunteering as a guide
at the house of worship yesterday

me: (walking past a group of russian-speaking visitors, minding my business)
strange middle-aged man in the visitor group: (turning around, grabbing my hand) "all i know is allah-u-akbar"
me: "excuse me?"
SMM: "all i know is allah-u-akbar"
me: "ummm, ok. allah-u-akbar to you."
SMM: "my grandmother's father was arabian muslim."
me: "oh, ok."
SMM: "where you from?"
me: "my parents are from iran, but i was born here."
SMM: "oh, you persian? yeah, i'm from ukraine. are you married?"
me: "no, not married."
SMM: "you are so beautiful! beautiful girl like you not married?"
me: "ummm, guess not."
SMM: "i want you to be my friend and teach me about bahai faith."
me: "well, have you met maya? she speaks russian and she can answer some questions for you."
SMM: "i know maya. but i want you to be my friend and i can give you my phone number."
me: "well, if you have questions about the Bahai Faith, i'd be happy to answer them for you now."
SMM: "what about if i give you my phone number?"
me: "that's really ok. but did you have any questions?"
SMM: "no. i just like your eyes. can i give you my number?"
me: "ummm, no, thank you. but have a nice day."

That was a fabulous story!! Thank you for sharing it with all of us, but I think George brings up an excellent point...despite our enjoyment, you probably didn't enjoy it that much.

I "lol"ed for real on this one. Nas, this is why blogs exist, and why I'm happy to see that you're using yours well. Excellent.

Delara, I can give you her work number if you want, I have it memorized. Bwhahaha!

PS: "Nice eyes, wanna teach me?" will now be my new pick up line.

This is hilarious! And what makes it even more hilarious is that I am fairly certain I have met this same person. This sounds totally like something he would say and do. If indeed it is the same person, let me tell you my story. I was sitting in the House of Worship, saying prayers, feeling the spirit, existing in the vibe, when this dude comes up, sits next to me, and starts talking to me. I don't want to be rude, so I get up and go outside with this guy so that we don't bother the other people saying prayers. When we go outside, the stories he tells me all have to do with his wife and the girlfriends he has in many different countries that he has met through various exploits as a member of the KGB. It has to be the same person!

wow... nothing like a philandering KGB member to enrich my temple experience. glad i attract the quality men... :)

That was so stinkin hilarious... Just wanted you to know some random Baha'i guy that you have probably never met happened to come across your site and read this entry and got a good laugh out of it... Good job at maintaining a professional and helpful attitude... Can be hard sometimes heehee...
