pay it forward?

yesterday i saved someone $30, and they don't even know.

i was walking to my car in downtown evanston and noticed the parking man driving slowly by. i started digging in my pockets looking for change to load into whoever's meter had expired. but everyone was a "good" citizen and there were no expired meters. until he got to the car before mine. i watched him slowly take down the license plate number, and before he got out to issue the ticket, i asked him if i could do a good deed and help the poor sucker out by buying him 12 minutes with a dime. he let me and told me that i was too nice.
i like to think that this is true, but not really. while i was trying to save some poor person (not that poor, their car was a beemer) from one of those nasty yellow envelopes, my main motivation was to stop "the man" from getting $30.

i was sorry that the person whose car it was would never know about this good deed. not that i wanted a thank you, but i like to think that maybe if they knew, maybe they would have payed the favor foward and given that $30 that they would have been paying in a fine to someone who actually needed the money.

come to think of it though, knowing "the man", he probably would have driven by 12 minutes later and screwed the beemer owner out of $30 and me out of a dime. oh well.

for you mommy

my parents got a snazzy new computer and speedy internet connection this past weekend. many thanks to my friend nick who spent all day with them on saturday to get it all hooked up - gmail accounts and all.
last nite my dad was evidently giving lessons to my mother about how to use the computer and got her started a bit on the internet - which of course started here at the lagoon. she got on the phone with me and questioned why i had so much time between my entries, and then informed me that she would now be checking my blog (or as she calls it, depending on her mood, my log or my beh-log - that would be the persian accent kicking in) daily and that i needed to get better about posting. so this one's for you mommy. welcome to the internet. :)

chicago winter

i bet you think this picture is of a gross, rainy, foggy evening here in chicago. nope - it's not even 11 am. what happened to daylight? it's like i'm in alaska or someplace with only 2 hours of daylight in the winter - except we didn't have any light today. hmmm...if it's dark like evening, do you think this means i can go home now?

that's actually the lake in the background...not that you can see it.

feminine energy

i've been taking belly dancing lessons now for a few months, and am really, truly loving it. i've never before encountered any sort of class that makes me so happy. no matter if i'm sleepy, grumpy, or incredibly cozy in my apartment, i always want to go, because afterwards i am completely refreshed and happy.

my teacher, while she doesn't necessarily teach exactly the way i'd like, is so beautiful and graceful that i am mesmerized by anything she says and does. she has this way of speaking that is just so calming and soothing - almost spiritual. last nite we were speaking to another girl in the class who was also evidently quite spiritual about her belly dancing experiences. she said that she started belly dancing because she really wanted to get in touch with her feminine energy, and that all other dance forms were wrought with masculine energy. okay, maybe i'll buy that. i nodded my head in agreement. then she goes on saying that when she dances, she can really feel her womb healing. i nodded to that one too, because, really - what else can you do? maybe i just haven't gotten that far in my lessons to understand that the soreness i feel the next day is not because i'm excerising my abs, but because my womb is slowly healing. yes, yes, that must be it.
