i've entered the new age, again

so i returned the first new phone and got a second new phone. you know, i liked the blue, which was pretty much the only reason i got it, but there was a lot i didn't like. and then when it heated up to 8 million degrees after 5 minutes of talking, i decided i really didn't like it. so i went back to the sprint store and after waiting an hour, walked away with a really cool phone. it's silver, so i'm not special anymore, but it's neato. i like to hold it and look at it...and love it.

i've entered the new age

poo poo on all of you who laughed at my cell phone. poo poo on you cingular man who called it a dinosaur. it is a beautiful piece of technology, and i still love it, no matter what you say. but sometimes when you love something, you have to let it go.
i went to the sprint store last nite and got a new phone to replace the dying "dinosaur" that i love so dearly. although i'm not totally comfortable with the new one yet, it is pretty cool. it's blue! it flips! it has speaker! and bling tones! currently i have "hungarian dance no. 5" programmed for my ring tone. but i'm curious what these "bling tones" are all about. maybe 50 cent can greet me everytime someone calls.

let's end this entry with a brief moment of utter geekiness...i'm having data collected on a crystal right now. it's big enough to be a tetramer!!!!!!!!!!!!!! talk about bling!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

bitten

i woke up with this on my arm. could they be FANG MARKS?!?!?

i feel my superpowers starting

wasting time

sometimes i wish there were more websites that i visited daily. it's just that when i come in in the morning, i need that little bit of buffer time to waste before i actually delve into the lab. but with only a handfull of blogs that i visit and the only email i get being from people who want me to buy various prescription drugs for cheap, i shoot through this morning buffer time very quickly. i suppose i could just go for plan b...stare off into space for a dangerously long amount of time.

overuse of dramatic music

last nite khalid and i went out for a lovely little evening stroll. it was pretty hot, but much better than being cooped up in our apartment. or so i thought -
DUN DUN DUUUUUUHHHHHHN. (dramatic music in case you couldn't tell) (the story i am about to tell is not actually that dramatic.) (i just wanted to use the dramatic music) (i'm throwing in this fourth parenthetical statement for fun here. it serves no purpose) (neither does this one)

back to my story:

anyway, we were walking through downtown evanston and just as we were passing under the metra tracks, a creature ran out in front of us incredibly fast. my first thought was a cockroach. but chicago does not have new orleans style cockroaches. what midwesterners call cockroaches are more like fleas. anyway, the creature crossed our path, and then doubled back around, this time crawling over khalid's foot. khalid's flip flop clad foot. blegh. i thought about stepping on it, but it was such a big bug that i just imagined all the guts squirting out. yuck! and then i realized that they would be mammalian guts - the creature was a mouse. DUN DUN DUUUUUUUUUHHHHHHHHN.

gone free

i wonder what michael jackson is going to do this evening? i also wonder why i care.
we postponed our subgroup meeting to hear the verdict. when it looked like the jury would take a little longer, we took a computer into the meeting with us to continually reload cnn.com.
"so when i added rhodium, the spectrum showed -"
"SHUT UP!!! he's acquitted."
we all paused for a moment to take it in. after about 10 seconds, we all realized that the verdict really meant nothing to us and would have no effect on our lives, and so we moved on with our meeting.
but i still wonder what he'll do tonite.

swan song

this weekend i went to anne's wedding. after dating mike since they were like 15, they finally tied the knot. the whole weekend was just a wonderful time. i always forget how much i miss my college friends until i get to see them all. they constantly kept me laughing the whole weekend. we met up for the rehearsal on friday evening, but when night fell, the real rehearsing began. tired as we were, at midnite, us 5 girls went back to the hotel, and began practicing for our impending performance of "true blue" for the wedding. with the help of anne's dancer bridesmaids, we put together a knockout rendition with fully coordinated moves, and a high level of embarassment for all of us, most of all me, as i was in the role of madonna. if only i could find a way to post the video - i mean, if i'm going to embarass myself in front of a crowd of 200 people, why not the whole internet?
it was my last performance as madonna. we've sung and danced at all the roommate weddings so far, and all that's left is my own. so we'll see who is going to edge out who for the "honor" of being lead singer. my money's on cynthia.
all in all, the wedding was a blast. the only drawback was it just passed way too quickly.

important lesson learned today

prunes are not the only dried fruit that produce a laxative effect.

dear gross post doc,

there is a bathroom about a 10 second walk from our office. it is much more acceptable to make the noises you do and spit the things you spit up in there than in our office.
just thought maybe you weren't aware,
