happy new year
i used to think that i spent my new year's eves in boring ways...at home, with my parents, maybe a friend or two, and dick clark. but this new year's eve topped it. i was on an airplane and had no one to exchange "happy new year's" greetings with. i didn't think it would be that big of a deal to spend it on the airplane alone, and it wasn't really. but i did feel a slight twinge of sadness.
on the other side of the world, khalid had the opposite experience, going to a party in jordan at $150 a head, complete with a circus theme and professional dancers. his cousins there roll with the hip crowd and got him a ticket when they heard he was coming home. he said he saw his fair share of jordanian versions of paris hiltons at the party. i'd be kind of curious to go to something like that, but what would i wear? i guess it's good i was on the airplane.
6 hours on a plane on new year's eve is a lot of time to sit with your thoughts. in the last few hours of 2006, i reflected back on the year. it was a big one! i got a Ph.D., started my first real job, and i got engaged. that's a lot of big things to happen in just a year. 2007 has a lot to live up to, but all i really ask is happiness and health for me and everyone i love.
