election day craze
i got a phone call from bill clinton tonite. he just kept talking and i couldn't get a word in edgewise, but he called. me! okay, so maybe it was a recording. kind of like the one i got from al gore last week.
is it me, or is this election day crazier than others? i think perhaps they've all been crazy, but relative to my entire lifetime, I have payed attention to just a small handful of elections. no matter how heated the races are, they just don't grab your attention as much when you are 12.
i think part of it is that i live in california now, where there are a gazillion propositions and measures up for public vote. i feel this huge sense of social responsibility to do my part as a voter, so i've been spending my evening public transit rides reading up on the candidates and the different propositions. but there is so much and i've lived here for such a relatively short period of time so i'm really confused about a lot of the stuff. along democratic lines, typically yes. but what do you do when you live in berkeley and a republican would get laughed off if he/she ran for mayor, so instead you have several somewhat reasonable democratic candidates? much confusion.
good old bill must have realized my confusion when he gave me the personal call. al gore too for that matter.
