the latest in fashion
the frigid temps in evanston this season have made me realize the one part of my wardrobe that is missing...
a nose sock
i think i can make one and have it wrap around my head. it will prevent my nose from icing over and it will be very fashionable. don't you think?

That totally reminds me of a Jack London story. Apparently if it reaches below minus 70 degrees F, your spit will freeze before it hits the ground. In these conditions it was imperative for explorers of old to wear at the very least a strap of leather to cover their noses and prevent instant frostbite.

Remind me why you're a chemist again? You should have been an inventor. Or a fashion designer.

last winter i got my spit to freeze against a pole at an el stop. it was gross, yet fascinating. thankfully i don't think it is quite that cold this winter.
