commercial tears
an excerpt from an email i received from a friend. i won't mention names, but cynthia, you know who you are. :)
--------
by the way, i'm not even pms-ing, and i have cried during several
commercials lately-- one being the sylvan learning center ad. when that
little boy gives his mother an improved report-card for her birthday-- man,
i just lose it! i'm so weird.
--------
cynthia is not so weird. or maybe all of us are. the father daughter commercials really get to me. they tend to be credit card commercials where the dad is fretting over paying for the daughter's wedding but then as she's walking down the aisle, you start to see that sad look in his eyes and then my tears start a-flowin'. which commercials get to you guys?

well, as long as i've already made known that i'm a big dork, here's another one:
met life commercials. even with snoopy dancing in the background. they usually include such scenes as a mother pushing her child on a swing, with a pondering look on her face that says "what will happen to my baby if i'm not here? i better give all my moolah to a life insurance company."

Okay -- but the most amazing commercial by far is the one for endabuse.org that was actually played during the NBA Playoffs. It has 8-9 year old boys walking up to older men in their families and neighborhoods and articulately asking questions like:
"I'm getting conflicting images of women and violence. Can you help me sort them out?"
I cannot believe how brilliant they are. At first you want to chuckle 'cause these kids are using such big words and concepts, but then you're just like, whoa!

I always want to cry with long-distance commercials where soldiers are calling their families from some far-off place in the middle of nowhere. So-and-so's technology made this call possible...and you see the mom and dad being all happy that their son called, and the son is happy to talk to the family. This makes me cry. Sigh.

This is really a goofy one to get teary about, but that doesn't stop me - the one related to Internet services where Elle McPherson's son stops crying when he sees her online.

This is not meant as a preachy comment; but I think you guys watch too much TV! I haven't seen any of these commercials you are talking about! But maybe because I am a guy (as opposed to a gal!) and I just don't pay attention.

yeah, dayee, i've only seen the one i mentioned. and even that was several years ago. but i'm proud to say that for the first time in forever i had the tv on for several hours last nite and watched about 6 or 8 episodes of the real world.
