carrots & cucumbers
growing up with my iranian grandparents around me led me to a certain appreciation for fruits and vegetables that other people my age did not have. not a single american kid i went to school with consumed nearly as much fruit as i did. i remember pulling out the pieces of my lunch that my mother packed for me...orange, apple, pear, grapes, carrots, and maybe one cookie. while all the other kids had kudos bars, oreos, hostess cupcakes, cheetos, and the like. while i used to push the fruits away, now i'm incredibly thankful that i wasn't given the sugary artificialness that is a little debbie oatmeal creampie or the radioactive orange "cheese" covered cheetos. i am the one now pushing the fruit on myself. going to the grocery store, not because i have no more bread, milk, or stuff for dinner, but because i have run out of oranges. and now, i appreciate fruit and vegetables in a new way. the following are two examples:
1) cucumbers. they are great in water! while i used to love eating them and putting the peel all over my face (good for your skin and very cooling!), now they can decorate my favorite drink. dirty dave, i think you should try this one. you'll really like it. just one slice in a glass will do.
2) carrots. i had been told by someone (i think maybe shokufeh) years ago that carrots are good for my vagina. and yours! if you have one that is. why, i don't know. i tried to look it up one time and found some correlation between vitamin b and mucus membrane, which i guess lines vaginas. but who knows? i really just like to tell people this fact. they are usually too shocked to ask why. spread the word! ladies, eat carrots! gentlemen, feed your favorite female those wonderful mini carrots. maybe even a nice bag of them for valentine's day? what's good for a woman's vagina is good for everyone else too!

I had the sugary stuff. It was good. But now I find myself going to grocery store for oranges too... I have multiple types of citrus fruit in my fridge at any one time. Well at least I won't be getting scurvy anytime soon. But I wish I had more oranges less little debbie like you. Even if I thought you were a freak. And pears are still weird to me :)
