where's the fake meat product?
presently i am boycotting
-soda (boycott effective september 26th, briefly broken on account of the food poisoning forcing me to have sips of ginger ale)
-hamburgers (boycott effective october 22nd)
-chicken (unintentional boycott, but i don't think i've had it for weeks)
i like to boycott foods that i get disgusted with. sometimes it's due to an overdose, sometimes it's just cause i'm weird. i always debate about the length of time i should boycott these items for. my longest has been soda for a year. right now, i'm thinking the soda and hamburger boycott will last at least until the new year. then i will reevaluate the situation. the chicken...just not into it. but the last time i did an official boycott of it, i ate chicken mcnuggets 2 days after the declaration of the boycott because i forgot that they were made of chicken. this also accidentally broke the fried food boycott. it wasn't a good day. but you can tell that by the mere fact that i ate at mcdonalds.
i don't think i will ever declare myself a vegetarian, because i don't really hate meat. i even like it upon occasion. but for instance, in asian dishes, i always order tofu. i just really enjoy the texture of fake meat products. i had the pleasure of trying seitan when having dinner with lacey last month. twas lovely. and i did always like the fake bacon my old roommate anne would eat every once in awhile. not into the veggie burger though. but maybe i'll give it another chance...i haven't had one for 6 years. mayhaps my tastes have changed.

You need some venison.

I hear you. I'm on a movie theater boycott. But if someone else pays, I'm there.

This sounds like the time for you to whip up some walnut-beet burgers. Much tastier than Veggieburgers, in my opinion. And tastier than you're thinking. I should send you the recipe.

I love tofu! I don't know what seitan is though???? And if it is not a trouble, I want that beet-walnut recipe too!!
I'm not a vegetarian either, I just tend to only eat meat socially. I don't like to eat meat by myself. (but I'll eat venison every chance I get!) and i'll eat fish (but not really shellfish). I like salmon. however, neither boycotts nor eccentricites judge my diet. I just eat what I want to eat for the reasons that I eat them. :)
I don't really drink pop anymore either. Though I do like to mix my own ginger-cayenne brew (although I don't recommend it to anybody else) it definitely lightens the eyes. and I'm wearing a red-hooded sweatshirt right now. (the hood is up) bye!

dave-
i believe the waitress at the restaurant told me seitan was compressed whole wheat flour. sounds unappetizing (although, maybe not to you) but has a lovely texture and absorbs its surrounding sauces quite well.

that sounds delicious!

Here's a nice little page of info about Seitan for those interested:

Also, to any out there, even if you love Tofu, my advice is this: DO NOT try a tofurky. Just have a real vegetarian meal. Just like trying to copy a tofu dish without tofu would be silly, why try to copy a meat dish without meat.

I recently turned vegetarian for ethical reasons, but I do miss the taste of stuff I used to eat. So fake meat would be nice. Any suggestions on mail-order or sites that sell it? My supermarket doesn't have any "fake meat" or "cruelty-free" cheese.
