Explanation of the Acronymic Lexicon of The Office
Findings indicate that due to the advent of instant messaging technology, cube-dwellers are able to communicate more qualitative information than verbal communication allows us. Because we are an office of research, we take these findings seriously and have thus developed the Acronymic Lexicon of the Office" (ALO). Development began in the mind of Lacey Graves when she decided to abbreviate the commonly used phrase, "true dat" to simply "td." People laughed at her and told her she was ridiculous. However, armed with the knowledge that many brilliant people's ideas were once rejected, she pressed onward and started using "td" more and more, until people were not only using "td," they were developing their own acronyms. Fortunately, the rejected feelings that Ms. Graves experienced in the early days of the Acronymic Lexicon waned as the user base grew. It is currently the 2nd largest Acronymic Lexicon in use at the Office, second only to the system of institutional abbreviations in use by our executive employers. This lexicon is composed of acronyms of frequently used phrases and it need not be confined to instant messaging. The ALO can be used in conversation with friends of the O and also amongst the O employees themselves in verbal conversation. Our findings indicate, however, that many people do not use the same phrases as the O and thus, do not understand ALO. However, we feel confident that with proper guidance and training, this obstacle can be overcome and the ALO will spread to all the good parts of the world.
