The honeymoon dillema has been solved: we're going on a cruise out of Miami. Hooray for gettin' that done.
Myk's name has been legally changed to Michael Graves Gerard and we have acquired our marriage license with said name on it. Check, check.
I've been listening to Jay-Z's "Black Album" lately and particularly enjoy "Encore." Now, here's my thing: this album has partially restored my opinion of Jay after his contributions on Kanye West's "College Dropout" album. I felt like all he did in the song "Never Let Me Down" was talk about how great he was, what a great rapper he is, how he came out of nothing and is now everything, and yet THERE IS NO ACTUAL MESSAGE? I keep thinking about the Shakespeare line, "Life's but a walking shadow, a poor player, that struts and frets his hour upon the stage and then is heard no more; it is a tale told by an idiot, full of sound and fury, signifying nothing." Jay-Z, not a good thing. Not at all. Especially when you're put up against a genius like Saul Williams who on the same song flows about how God gave him a gift and it's to make words into art. Saul's bit will bring tears to your eyes and make you want to toss out the rest of the song and for that matter, the rest of your crappy hiphop music collection. Even Kanye can't compete with that. But Jay just looks like an idiot. Maybe I'm a bad Baha'i for saying so. Alas.
So "Encore" is a great song. I want to dance to it. Unfortunately, it's no more substantive than everything else I've heard from him, but at least it's fun to listen to. It would be great to see some really inspired lyrics from Jay because I think he may be a gifted lyricist. So there's the challenge Jay-Z, if you're reading my blog: write a song that blows my mind. What, you want my advice? Take a 3-day workshop from Saul Williams. There ya go.
Oh yeah, one more thing: does anyone out there run just a plain ol' personal blog using Mambo? If you have no idea what I'm talkin' about, don't worry about it.

HAHAHAHA! :)
Posted by: nas on July 27, 2005 09:39 PMAll too often I only listen to music because it has a good feel. Perhaps I should expect more?
Never really used Mambo so I cannot offer any much help. Use http://www.cmsmatrix.org/ to compare it to MT and WordPress?
Posted by: ez on July 27, 2005 10:25 PMYeah, I completely agree with you, Lacey.
Saul says:
"And when these words are found
Let it been known that God's penmanship has been signed with a language called love
That's why my breath is felt by the deaf
And why my words are heard and confined to the ears of the blind
I, too, dream in color and in rhyme
So I guess I'm one of a kind in a full house
Cuz whenever I open my heart, my soul, or my mouth
A touch of God reigns out"
And then, Jay says...
"Number one albums, what I got like four of dem,
More of dem on the way,
The Eight Wonder on the way"
Wow. Now that's contrast, eh?

Posted by: Raina on July 28, 2005 04:19 PMI've been thinking about this even more. Before the part that Andrew quotes, Saul says,
if i was on the highest cliff on the highest riff
and you slipped off the side
and clenched onto your life in my grip
i would never, ever let you down
and when these words are found
let it be known that God's penmanship has been signed in a language called love
So, so beautiful..........
Posted by: Lacey on August 2, 2005 04:46 PMi agree with you about jay's verse on "never let me down", but its not saul williams on that track, its a guy named j-ivy, a spoken word poet from chicago i believe. he sounds a whole lot like saul williams though (and i love saul).
Posted by: jason on August 15, 2005 01:19 PMHoly crap, Jason (great to see you on here again!) you are right! I thought all this time that it was Saul...they sound amazingly alike. Actually, this makes me happy because now I can go listen to a new cool spoken word artist (new and cool to me, that is). :)
