Last night as I was drawing and painting in our small, dark, hot, cluttered art room, I was struck with the happiest thought of all time. I truly felt, 100%, that I was born to paint. This is what I was born to do! I never thought it was possible to have this kind of realization, but I am wrong, because I know that I am born to paint. That's what I'm here for. As Mr. Murawski from college used to say, "Do that thing you do!" Now, NOW that is sinking in. Do that thing you do...for your JOB.
I know some of you out there are like, "HELLO! Durr."
Okay, just thought I'd share.

if only we were all so lucky to be struck with these epiphanies. but what if you realize that you were meant to watch tv? who will hire you for that? hmmm...maybe the neilsen rating company.
Posted by: meisa on August 3, 2004 05:52 PMPeople will always need someone to paint their house. And you can also paint dining rooms a nice green shade. Plus you can get infinite joy by going to the Home Depot and watching the machine that shakes paintcans real fast. You can get business cards that have swatches on them, and your wardrobe will forever be simple white overalls. Nice.
Posted by: Sherwin Williams on August 3, 2004 06:07 PMSee how happy the lacer is? Our avocations are our prayers, and our prayers are the path to a purer heart. I came up out of the subway today and stumbled upon a wonderland. The squash was stretching up over arched beams, and children were everywhere in groups of twos and threes, picking cucumber beetles off of the corn. And it occurred to me (not for the first time) that God would only draw close to me if I cleansed my heart.
And this, in relation to your dream:
"The true seeker hunteth naught but the object of his quest, and the lover hath no desire save union with his beloved. Nor shall the seeker reach his goal unless he sacrifice all things. That is, whatever he hath seen, and heard, and understood, all must he set at naught, that he may enter the realm of the spirit, which is the City of God."
- Baha'u'llah, The Valley of Search
In the same boat, only I was lucky to encounter the revelation in my last semester at college. Fixing things makes me happy. World problems, mechanical items, data, or whatever. Not happy unless there is a problem for me to wrap my mind around and solve.
