As I have demonstrated in the past few years, I have a very basic, non-impressive understanding of music (even though I can read music, which to some may be impressive, but it really shouldn't be). I pretty much am that girl that turns on the radio, gets hooked on a sound that was probably more computer than voice and buys a CD based on that (see: Backstreet Boys, ABBA). Or I'll sample things on the internet/in a store and then buy. See? Not very sophisticated cd-buying mentality. But I am straying from my subject, which is NOT my non-sophistication, rather music that is particularly good in the summer.
Last night I was at the gym and usually they have fun club music playing (I'm sure someone spends time ripping and burning the tracks at the gym because it usually sounds like some thought went into it...then again, it is Andersonville...) but last night they played The Sundays "Summertime," which immediately launched me into a state that can be likened to cats sniffing catnip. I had to have that song immediately. Just like yesterday I knew I needed to download "Mo Money, Mo Problems," just 'cuz. And last week I really needed "This Way" from Dilated Peoples. These and others fill my summer lexicon of music. And it's best to play it now.
I don't have a cd burner, and I sit at my computer enough that it's not really necessary anyways. But thanks to iTunes, I can legally enjoy my summer mix:

I don't think your music selection process is unsophisticated. I find it interesting!
But I'm curious -- wasn't there a time, not too long ago, when you weren't interested in R&B?
Posted by: +mojan. on July 21, 2004 11:50 AMYes. In fact, I have no idea why I started to like R&B. Now, it's about 40% of what I listen to. I really have no idea why this happened. I know, though, that I am pretty sick of punk-pop groups and indie-emo rock is really grating on my nerves lately. Also, I feel that I have a great abundance of white people in many aspects of my life...I need to diversify a little.

Posted by: george on July 22, 2004 07:28 PMYay for 1979 too!! That song has such a rockin' mellow beat. Billy C's voice is almost a hush whisper. I still love it.
Hey Lacey... you should check out TajMajal if you're looking for a new /old beat. This guy is amazing. I recommend his greatest hits. :) ~Jeanna
