If my parents' bathroom scale is to be believed:
1) MrMan now weighs 20 pounds. I knew he was getting heavy... believe me, I knew... but I wasn't quite ready for him to be this big. Among other things, it is time to transition to a new carseat. I will miss the convenience of his baby one so readily snapping in and out of its base, but I guess it's time to move on, especially since carrying his weight plus the weight of the seat isn't that easy on me. (Though I'm sure I'll look back fondly once I have to deal with waking him up to get him out of the car.) I've been thinking to get him a convertible seat - one that's backfacing, then frontfacing, then a booster. Any warnings or recommendations?
2) I am back to my pre-pregnancy weight. I'm guessing that feeding, carrying, and wrangling a 20-pounder has something to do with it. My body looks very different from the old version of itself, but why shouldn't it, after gaining, and then losing 40 pounds in a relatively short space of time. I marvel at the whole process, the synergy of it, that eight months ago I was huge and now I'm not, but I have an amazing son. And a flabby pooch, bigger boobs that make me better understand those greeting cards that joke about saggy boobs reaching the waist, and a scar across my abdomen. The marvelous thing is how the amazing son sort of cancels all those other things out.
Posted by Shokufeh at July 9, 2006 10:04 PMBack at your pre-pregnancy weight? I'M JEALOUS! I have never eaten so horribly in my life. The madness has to end. Congrats to you though!
Posted by: Freckle Face Girl at July 12, 2006 12:46 PMD and I just did the whole carseat process as Camille got to long for her seat. Basically it breaks down like this:
#1 Rated carseat for safety is the Britax, any model that they make. 3 out of their 4 models go up to 65lbs./49inches with their Roundabout model only going to 40lbs./40 inches.
However, the Britax is very pricey, especially if you go buy it in the store. I would highly recommend going to some online stores. They are clearing out old patterns and you can save up to $60. Go to www.mysimon.com and do some comparitve shopping...they'll tell you who has it for cheap!
#2 Brand that I would recommend if the Britax feels to pricey is Graco. Very affordable but not as easy to use as the Britax and it only goes up to 40lbs./40 inches.
All other brands in my opinion are questionable as they have had many recalls. My sister was in a severe accident with her 2 girls in Graco Carseats, the girls walked away w/o a scratch. However, she did say if Britax had been around then she would have had them in those.
Also, both brands of carseats are both rear and front facing. Remember, keep MrMan rear facing until 20lbs. AND 1 year. If you turn him around b/f then he could be injured in an accident.
Good Luck! Hope this helps!
Posted by: Emily at July 13, 2006 07:00 AMWe have a Graco convertible carseat and love it. I've heard such good things about Britax, but they're *so* pricy! :( I do miss Lucas's infant carrier sometimes ... it was *so* easy being able to pop him in and out. And it's hard getting him out of the car now when he's asleep! LOL! :) Congratulations on reaching your prepregnancy weight! That's awesome! Lucas weighs a little over 20 pounds now.
