As you make your way around town (wherever you live), do you see dogs being pushed in baby strollers? It's not something I see every day, but it's common enough that I now only do a double take, rather than a triple one. I can't help but wonder why people do this.... Maybe they think the two front legs somehow cancel out the two hind legs....
So, country/world-wide trend, or something gaining popularity only here?
Around here, I see people, errr, old ladies, walking their little rats, errrr, teensy dog breeds in handbags or bicycle baskets. In winter, these creatures would wear capes and rat, errr, dog booties.
Are we talking about the same breed of dogs?
That's a new one. I've seen teeny dogs in large handbags, sure, and there is an old guy that I see in the drugstore occasionally who puts his poodles in the shopping cart. But I can report in from the Bay Area in California that I have never seen dogs in strollers.
Posted by: Arin at October 25, 2005 03:49 PMi've seen this, yes. most of the time, my guess is that the dog is too frail to walk on its own. i've even seen a bulldog in a jogging stroller. it's pretty hilarious.
Posted by: mipmup at October 25, 2005 05:12 PMNope. Can't say that I see that at the beach in Florida. Then again, it's not very ritzy around here... Perhaps in Miami. Yeah, I could see that on South Beach.
Posted by: george at October 25, 2005 05:28 PMagree with arin. . .i've never seen that in SF. But I have seen weird dog stuff. like interesting doggy haircuts. and outfits. and people punking their dogs up.
Posted by: Lua at October 25, 2005 09:29 PMAnissa, some of these would fall in the category of "purse dogs," but not all of them.
Mipmup, thanks for the jogging stroller share - hilarious.
I believe these are the same people who shove tiny into a handbag and dress her up. *I* believe these people are nuts. Enough of that though, I'm gonna go look for new pics on www.stuffonmycat.com
Posted by: Mabel at October 26, 2005 02:14 PMAyeah, 'check' on poodles too. But I hardly perceive them - they still bark like normal dogs.
