Weekend in review
I made it through both showers without the initiation of labor. However, Friday afternoon, my cubicle looked like a baby product storeroom. And if anyone were to raid our home now, they might conclude that we had some baby product trade operating out of our apartment. There's baby stuff everywhere! Last night, I woke Sam up several times, convinced that someone had dropped off more presents for Bean, in our bed.
At the shower on Saturday evening, there was great conversation, much of which made me laugh uncontrollably. It's not everyone with whom poop can be discussed. One of the endearing things about this group of friends - mostly in their 20s - is how the guys are so excited about the baby. Just because they're college guys doesn't mean they're not amazed by the miracle of life. Whenever I see them, they ask about the progress of Bean and ask me questions about what it feels like to be pregnant, and they're stoked to see and feel Bean moving around. Such great dads they'll make!
Both Saturday and Sunday, I benefited from a friend's uniformed status. The large military population here has some great benefits available to them. Saturday, I finally visited the military mall that opened to much to-do a couple of years ago, and bought a Boppy at a great price. Yesterday, we had a delicious brunch at the Officers' Club. (I wore a dress I regret not photographing, as it makes me think Miami Beach, and the aqua green background seemed very appropriate for the setting - military installations here always make me feel like it's the 50s.) Strangeness of the meal: the table next to us had several kids, one of whom was sitting in his high chair watching a portable DVD player. That was strange enough in itself, but it was not Barney he was watching - it was collapsing buildings and monster trucks.
My back, and the rest of my body, couldn't keep up with the housekeeping plans I had. Even ignoring the recent influx of baby stuff, I don't know how we've accumulated so many things here. Good thing my mom's not a neat freak, because the apartment is far from.
We started lamaze class yesterday. There was something nice about being in a room full of other people going through the same thing as us. Though we're the only ones delivering at a different hospital. I liked our instructor and the other couples, and am looking forward to practicing the exercises this week. I was also inspired by the video shown - the woman was just so chill as she labored. I'm sure that each week the couple highlighted will be more frantic. I've decided to create a superhero shirt to wear during delivery, so I can feel imbued with more powers.

"Stoked." You are officially Hawaiian. :P
Love the imagery of the Officer's Club. a) Because I feel privileged to live near Miami anytime someone references it and b) I could totally visualize the 40's and 50's beach style a la "Pearl Harbor."
Glad you had a chance to laugh uncontrollably and good luck with Lamaze. You're getting so close now!
Sounds like you are more than ready for the baby. Things are moving along well. :)
Glad you got so many goodies.
I have a friend whose house burned down a few days after her shower and she lost everything. The house was really old with electrical problems though, so not to imply I think this could EVER happen to anyone else. It just reminded me of how sad I was for her when you said you have TONS of stuff in your house! :-)
How is the nursery coming along?
