Tempting fate

It's almost 3:00 am and I'm awake.
I kind of want to clean and tidy. And that's kind of scary. Apparently, women tend to go into some sort of cleaning/nesting frenzy right before labor. And I'm not ready for labor. I guess it's a good sign that I'm able to maintain my post here at the computer, and haven't yet attacked the pile of stuff that needs to be put away. Yet.

If any time there were a time slated for early labor, it would be this weekend. My office had a shower for me today. Some friends have a shower for me tomorrow. And how else to bring on someone's labor than to throw a shower for her? On top of that, I actually have some other plans with friends for the first time in forever. And Sam has plans that involve his being away from the house for 30 hours. So you know we're tempting ironic fate.

But I've recieved strict instructions from my mother that no baby is to be born before her arrival on Monday night. And if that isn't enough for Bean, I have given strict instructions that, as much as I want to meet him/her, I want an internal occupant for at least a few more weeks, preferably five. I still have paperwork to complete.

And cleaning to do.

I "nested," too! :) I'm so excited for you!

let's hope Bean minds his/her mama and grandma!

Oh my goodness, you are so right. A baby shower is like an open invitation for the baby to come right out. GOOD LUCK!

hmmmm... women go into cleaning frenzies before labor? i probably should've had several hundred children by now then, b/c i go into those all the time. so i say no worries. maybe you just like to clean. it is really fun, after all. :)

and yeah, bean knows s/he can't disobey her/his persian grandma. that kind of knowledge is available even pre-natally... i'm sure it's on some important gene sequence or something. so yeah, no worries. :)

Hmm. I could use the need to clean. I am SO excited for you! It's so strangely fabulous that I came to find your blog just as this little Bean adventure was beginning. What a journey! I hope the irony doesn't tempt the fates too much. Yay for mom visits and a clean and ready nest and 5 more weeks!

Nas, I am sad to say that I generally hate cleaning, so this is strange behavior for me. If it were my husband going through this, it would be nothing strange. But me?
It's actually Bean's Black grandmother. But I'd say it's pretty universal to pay attention to the grandmother - worked in this case. ;)

Here's to my obedient Grandchild!

oh. hmmmm... for some reason i got the impression it was your mom that was coming, shok. well, in any case, i've always thought that black moms and persian moms have a lot in common -- so i guess the same would go for grandmas. and yeah, obedience is good in both cases. :)

It is my mom - she's Black. It's my dad who's Persian. I know, my looks threw you off.
