2. ask me three questions, no more, no less. ask me anything you want.
3. paste this into your journal, allowing your friends to ask you anything.

book(s): The Thursday Next series, by Jasper Fforde
music: The Arcade Fire (I love love love them)
Questions...hmmm.
1. Have you read Persepolis (and its sequel) by Marjane Satrapi? [If not, you totally should]
I'm sad to say I haven't yet. But they are on my list of should-reads. I hear good things.
2. [This one is going to be pure torment for me, as the snow just started falling here] So, what is are the current weather conditions in your neck of the woods right now?
If it makes you feel any better, much of the day was grey and hazy. However, it has turned into quite a clear night with nice trade winds. The coolness in the air is just the right touch of fall (for me, though in a former life it may have made me bust out shorts instead of sweatshirt).
3. Can you recall the best day/time you've had since moving to Hawaii, and what made it so special?
This was one of them. I've had a few others, including this past Saturday, where I had the same feeling. I think common elements were spending time in the ocean, feeling the sun, and basically experiencing life as I pictured it here - letting go of the mundane and the things I need to get done and just living the moment. A bonus is the exhilaration of standing on a surfboard, basically in disbelief as I move across the water.
Congratulations on finishing your novel! 60 extra words and everything! I'm impressed
see: "defending your life"
read: "the grapes of wrath" (and not, not, not because it was on oprah's booklist)
listen: "tassoumakan" by issa bagayogo
1. i'm new to your blog, how did you end up moving to hawai'i?
Thanks for visiting, and commenting. Coming here - one of the flukes of my life. I applied for a job on a whim, never expecting to actually get it. But I got offered the job the day before I got married (summer of 2002), and moved from Chicago five weeks later.
2. was it hard to find work there?
Apparently not ;) But seriously, given our isolation and industries, I think that it is somewhat hard to find a job here, especially one in the field of choice at an appropriate level.
3. is it as expensive as people say it is? (i'm in southern california, so i am familiar with the overpriced "bungalow!")
Yes. It's not like everything is at out-of-control prices, but the slightly higher costs of most things (food, gas, housing) adds up. We always say that when we finally move back to the mainland, we'll feel rich. Except maybe if we move to California ;)
Posted by: mipmup at December 1, 2004 11:03 AM1. MOVIE: Living in Oblivion. BOOK: Holy Fools by Joanne Harris. ALBUM: Portishead/Portishead.
2. Have you already seen/read/heard any of these?
No, I'm happy to add them to my to-... list.
If you do see/read/hear any of these and hate them, will you judge me?
No, not you, just your judgement ;-)
Where's the last place you and Sam had dinner together, just the two of you?
Usually, the answer to that would be our living room, in front of the tv. But last night we went shopping and had a quick bite at a cafe at the mall. And, to answer what may be the real question - our last date was week before last when we went to dinner at a restaurant I'd been wanting to visit because I'd heard good things about their non-alcoholic drinks menu. My raspberry mojito did not disappoint. Nor did the salad with glazed macadamia nuts. The company was good, too.

book: the wind up bird chronicles by haruki murakami (or dreaming of babylon by richard brautigan)(or anything by richard brautigan)
music: the shins--"chutes too narrow," though their first album "oh inverted world" is really awesome as well. (i would recomend arcade fire as well. they are so unbelivably good)(i get to see them on friday, yesss..)(and on saturday iron and wine)(scratch the shins, no don't scratch the shins, but iron and wine is awesome. get the album the creek drank the cradle. it's really simple guitar mostly and beautiful soft porch lyrics)
questions:
1. when are you visiting me in portland?
One day.... I'd like to try in February, in conjunction with a work trip to San Jose.
2. why are you leaving hawaii before i can afford to visit yall there?
Because we miss you, and all our family, so much. Just try to visit! You've got time!
3. how can i get out of bed before one?
Get into it before one.
my questions sucked:
No, they didn't. But I'll answer the ones below anyway.
1. what is your favorite book?
That's a super-hard question. I don't think I can answer with just one. A long-time favorite is "Toto-Chan: the Girl in the Window," which is no longer in print, and likely comes to mind because I was discussing with Mom yesterday. Another long favorite is "Ishmael," by Daniel Quinn. My favorite recent read is "The Time Traveler's Wife," by Audrey Niffenegger. My favorite collection is books by Madeleine L'Engle.
2. what do you love about sam? (not intended to sound like being asked in a jerk manner)
He's the most kind-hearted person I know. Seriously. There are other things I love about him, but that's the thing the comes to mind first.
3. where do you want to visit more then anywhere and why?
Another super-hard question. But I guess I would have to say Iran - because 1) I can't, and 2) it is our fatherland and rich in culture and history.
