I've noticed that some companies have taken to calling their prunes "dried plums." Sure, it's what they are, and I know there tends to be a negative association with prunes (which I don't understand, because I LOVE them, and no, they don't make me run to the bathroom), but why the sudden change?
And, then, last week, in Costco, I noticed in the produce section some "fresh prunes." Yes, they were plums.
Anyone else think this is weird?
plum n.
1. Any of several shrubs or small trees of the genus Prunus, bearing smooth-skinned, fleshy, edible fruit with a single hard-shelled stone that encloses the seed.
2. The fruit of any of these trees.
isn't it like calling grapes "fresh raisins" and calling raisings "dried grapes"???
