While it's disconcerting that a lot of those who need it will not be getting the flu vaccine this year, the accompanying attention to the issue makes me feel like public health has been getting its mesage across. People have taken to heart that they're supposed to get the flu vaccine each fall. Now they can't get it and they're worried, and there's price-gouging, and strict laws are being put in place, and shareholders are suing.... But all of these unfortunate things are closely tied to people having listened when public health said, "Get your flu shot."
My recent interest in communications issues shines through.
