1) When I buy something, a bag is sometimes offered, but it is not unusual for the salesperson to offer me a package.
2) Today, we went out of our way to go to a gas sale. This particular gas station has sales every Sunday and Tuesday. Today, we paid the relatively low price of $1.98/gallon.
Posted by Shokufeh at April 11, 2004 11:52 PMwow, that's expensive gas.... that's the higest i have heard so far... what do you mean a pkg?? by the way, can you give me your email address?
a package? do they wrap it up and tie it with a string?
Posted by: Emily at April 13, 2004 11:30 PMThat's one of the things I never understood - the ridiculously low prices on fuel in the US. I haven't checked back with local prices recently, but man, they're ripping a crater into our wallets. And now this..."sales"! It's a bit like taking the car on a week-end and crossing the border to Poland and Chech [as long as their prices are still cheap] for a super refill...
Posted by: mademoiselle a. at April 14, 2004 03:38 AMHi!
Where in the world did you go to pay only $1.98 for gas?
My friend, who once lived in Las Vegas, said the same thing about the package/bag/sack deal, although I forget which she asked for, when buying something, that caused an uproar multiple times. I don't know, but they are all the same for me! How about you?
Posted by: pt*:) at April 14, 2004 10:02 AMI always get thrown off by the package thing - my brain has to process: "package = bag" instead of my first thought that I'm being offered something with brown paper and string. (I guess that word is intrinsically associated with the Sound of Music for me.)
For the gas, we go to this place on 10th Ave, about 5 blocks mauka of Waialae. I think it's an Aloha Gas.
I guess going to another country for gas in Europe is like going to another state with cheaper prices? But obviously, that's not an option for us. I wonder if Californians bother doing such.
Posted by: shokufeh at April 14, 2004 01:29 PMYep, $i.98 is the lowest I've found in my neighborhood. Looks like regular gas is starting at just over $2 a gallon these days.
Your package comment reminds me of when I was in Ireland last summer. When I approached the counter at a fast food place the teenaged employee looked at me and said "You alright, then?" In my head, I had to think, "okay, if I were in this exact situation in the States right now, what would the server be asking me?" And then I replied accordingly, with my order.
And then there was the time I walked into a shoe store and the young greeter at the door nodded at me and said "Fabulous." I wanted to thank her, but then I realized she was just saying hello.
