The ocean kicked my butt

I spent part of Saturday, the last day of the Fast, floating on a surfboard. I thought it would be much worse, since usually when we go surfing, I get really thirsty. (There's nothing more refreshing than getting under the shower - replacing the salt water with fresh.) But it wasn't too bad. Except when I managed to get pounded by a couple of waves. Or rather by my board, because I wasn't on it at the time. It struck me with great force in my thigh, and then, just when I thought I was getting control of the board, it hit me in my head. Luckily, the latter collision wasn't as forceful. I really thank my lucky stars that it was my thigh that got the brunt of it.
Want to see it, in all its glory, 24 hours after impact?

Don't worry, that's not my butt, despite the title of this entry. It really is my thigh. A huge part of my thigh. Here's a little perspective, another day later:

Don't you think the color coordinates nicely with the rest of this page?

ooh, shok, that hurts man.... ouch! is that the inner part or outer part of your thigh? and does gravity make it feel worse? i mean, when your standing, does it hurt more? just curious... dude, that bruise is HUGE!!! Are you sure you haven't broken anything? You and Lacey should start a CLUB!!

ohhhhh! that's hard to look at, shok. i'm sure it's harder to have on your actual body than it is for me to see. hope you're alright!!

owie, yeah.
As wonderful as the beach sounds, between this and the injury pictures on Lay-c's blog, I'm almost glad I have no beach to go play on just yet. eek.

Things don't ususally get this bad at the beach, Abby. But, if you'd like to recreate some beach expereriences, I can send you a piece of coral and you could keep it in the shower and then stumble on it randomly ;) Throw in some bath salts, and it would be almost like the real thing.

Roya, it's the outer side of my thigh. It doesn't hurt to walk, but touching it makes me shudder. Makes getting in and out of the car a delicate procedure. And trying to lie on the mat in Pilates class yesterday was quite the experience. I never realized how useful that area of the body is. If we start a club, you want to join? I could send you some painful coral too.

COOL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Look at that humongous bruise! I mean, don't you feel HARDCORE after that?

(kidding)

Damn, Shokufeh that thing is huge! And you are not a big person so that thing takes up a good third of your leg, right? Yikes! Hope that heals up soon...

Posted by: lacey at March 23, 2004 11:55 AM

well, at least the color covers up any visible leg hair. there's always a bright side!

Shokufeh jan,
Hope you don't mind if i tell you that was GROSS! also, painful - gives me the heebie-jeebies looking at the photo. Lacey is right - this must cover a good third of your leg.
Anyway, I also noted with interest, that this blog entry prompted the largest amount of comments I have seen in such a short period of time. What does it mean?

It -does- make me feel hardcore. (About what, I'm not sure, but hardcore, nonetheless.) Like I want to drop trou and show it off. But I refrain. I did discretely hike up my skirt a little at our Naw-Ruz dinner however - a friend and I were comparing similarly placed bruises.

I may have to update with another picture. The color scheme is progressing nicely. Though my tan diminsishes the intensity of the yellow.

Ouch... That really does look bad. I can't help feeling I'm a little responsible. Big waves? What? >_> Well, at least now when the other surfers see your warscar they'll know not to mess with you.

shok, i started this club a long time ago.....!! do you remember how stupid i was... man i have broken so many things... but at this age, if i were to get that kind of a bruise, i think i would be out for a month... maybe never pull out of it... i don't think i can bounce back like i used to... so huge props to you and lacey... i will send you the black and blue award! better start a new club, so we can stick around a little longer in this life...

Ow! Hope that's not as painful as it looks.
