Yesterday, Sam and I signed up for surfing lessons. They don't start until November, but I am way stoked. It really hit me the other day that I've been here a year, and I have yet to try surfing. I decided that needed to change, especially since I quit my other "Hawaiian" class - hula. So, we drove up to the North Shore, and signed up for free classes, offered by the City & County.
(This whole island is the county of Honolulu, and I don't understand the intricacies but as far as public services go, the city and county are seen as one entity - hence, the City & County of Honolulu.)
love your new colors! :)
Posted by: stef at September 15, 2003 04:33 AMRock on with the surf lessons. I tried to learn how to surf this summer, sans lessons, in Charleston, SC. It was the single hardest thing I've ever tried to learn in my life. But I loved it; it's so incredibly fun, albeit exhausting (in a good way). I wiped out really badly this one time and scratched up my face pretty good. I thought I'd be scarred for life, but it healed really quickly. You can't even tell anymore. Anyway, after the wipeout, I looked up some surfing basics online and was like, "Ohhhhhhhhh... yeah, that's why I wiped out. Yeah, I should have read this before, not after."

Afshin, that's a good idea - I'll read up before I hit the waves. I hope to avoid removing large chunks of my flesh.
surfing lessons=cool
in november=weird
I'll have to tell my daddy. he'll be sooo jealous. he's had this obsession with surfing ever since he had this dream a few years back that he was 19 and surfing. I think he hopes learning to surf will make him younger. let me know if it makes you younger! : )
