Beaming and crying

I know pride cometh before a fall and all that, but does it count if it's for someone else?

I am so proud of my brother that I could bust. He's made it through Round 1 and 2, holding firm to his ranking - 2, out of more than 200 people. He makes me dance in my seat, tears leaking from my eyes.

The last time we lived together was for the first half of 1995, so I don't get to to see him in his element very often, entertaining others by opening himself up to the world. But every time I do, I'm blown away by his wit, his wisdom, his nakedness. How can this be my little brother?! The same kid who spent the first part of his life with the misfortune of being in the shadow of his overachieving big sister, being "Shokufeh's brother." Now, the tables are turned, except that I see it as an honor to be "Anis' sister," to look around and see absolute strangers affected by his performances.

Anis, you're not just a man, you're the man. I love you.

Nooo, it doesn't count when it's for somebody else! When it's for somebody else, it's out of love for somebody else and not for yourself :) Congratulations so far and good luck.

so, i'm in ireland right now and have no ideas what happened on friday or saturday -- but we, the newly established chicago chapter of the anis fan club -- witnessed a ton of beaming and crying when we saw your brother kill it in rounds 1 and 2. i mean a room full of near-strangers, even those who thought they were there to cheer on other teams, had moist eyes. particularly on thursday at subeterrenean.

you have every right to be a proud, beaming, crying and giddy sister!

Thanks, Anissa and Kari!
Kari, what are you doing in Ireland?!

Ahhhhh! I'm on vacation. I haven't had one in 2 years. So, I'm visiting relatives and eating a ton of food! Oh -- and in case Moj reads this - I better say that I've been shopping. Today we saw the stores of Cork. Next week, Dublin! :)

Good for you, Kari!
I guess you're probably back now. I'm honored that you would check in with me while on your well-earned holiday.

OF COURSE I'd check in! I have to see all my bloggy girls are doing. Plus, oddly I was a bit homesick at the beginning of my trip and wanted to feel connected. Y'all do a great job of keeping people in the loop! :)

That's why you need a blog, too. So we can stay in -your- loop.

GP Shokufeh (that means good point).
I don't know I've been resisting the lure of the blog. But maybe... just maybe...
