Monkeypox

What I want to know, that I've yet to see covered in any of the monkeypox articles - why, on God's green earth, are we importing rats into the country?!

Everyone's concerned about the prairie dogs. But everything I read says they were infected by a Gambian Giant Rat. (Thank goodness I never crossed paths with one of those while I was in the Gambia.)

Rats are ick. Giant rats are super-ick. And last I checked, our rat population was doing just fine, thank you, without reinforcements from other countries.

You know, Shokufeh, I think of you every time I see a rat. Which, thankfully, isn't that often. Mainly only when I'm in New Orleans. Did Emily ever tell you her NYC rat story?

I've been living relatively rat free the past few years, thank goodness. Except for the time when I was taking Lacey to the airport, driving on LSD when a rat ran across the road, causing me to swerve because I didn't want its death on my hands. Good thing it was way early on a weekend morning, or I might have had Lacey's death on my hands.
I would like to hear Emily's story.
