You already know I’m a speed freak, regardless of the method of conveyance. Rollerblades are no different, and since moving here I've found a two-lane road paved sometime late last year that provides maximum level speed. Last week I was skating along this street when I was met with a happy surprise: new pavement! My route has now been expanded from 0.7 miles of smooth asphalt to 1.5. So instead of 5 roundtrips for 7 miles, I can do 3 for 9! Much less monotony, if that term can even be applied to this gorgeous stretch of tarmac. If you didn’t follow the math, don’t worry: the pictures say it all.
wowzers george! our first meeting will definately not involve rollerblades. i nearly have a heart attack if i see a pebble in front of me. i start to hyperventilate if the road is sloped at a 1 degree angle. rollerblades and i were not meant to be friends.
Posted by: meisa at May 19, 2005 11:03 AMI guess that rules out stairs and rails, then. ;)
Seriously though, the most important thing to learn is how to stop properly, quickly, and confidently. It's just like massive brakes on a fast car: you have to be able to bleed speed as quickly as you build it.
Posted by: george at May 19, 2005 01:08 PMI'm with Meisa, but I'm all about a flat, wide, paved street. Sounds like the perfect conditions. Can I bring my blades to Florida? :)

Posted by: george at May 19, 2005 05:36 PMright so, i love to rollerblade (used to be good at it back in the day), but these days, i'm way outta practice. i can still blade, but my inability to stop quickly and effectively inhibits my freedom. wanna teach me how? b/c this road looks fabulous. :)
Posted by: nas at May 20, 2005 10:53 AMI would be glad to, Nas. And we'll get a workout at the same time!
