the joy diet
These days, I have a lot going on -- and often, it feels like NOTHING is happening. Have you ever felt like that? Quite disorienting at times, but I think it has a lot to do with not only the gap between our expectations or hopes for what we want and what we have in reality, but also our sense of how long things should take and the actual pace of real-world time. Perhaps, it boils down to what "should" be and what is.
Something needs to change for me, though. It has been a rough year--so many people have been through severe challenges. As a dear friend described to me, it is as though we are coal being put under extreme pressure in a very short amount of time to accomplish what would normally take millions of years--becoming diamonds. Crazy to consider, but that analogy felt SO RIGHT ON. So, yeah. Something needs to change.
Well, thanks to some encouragement from a dear friend (who I hope will be taking this journey with me!), I decided to join a book-blogging book. For about the next 10 weeks, I will be reading The Joy Diet, by Martha Beck, and commenting on my journey. I'm so excited! I loved her book Finding Your Own North Star: Claiming the Life You Were Meant to Live which we discussed many years ago during a women's gathering I hosted back in Chicago. (I REALLY miss that, by the way.) I am eager to dive in and just experience the book, the book-blogging group, and the small change I am making by trying something new.
If you'd like to join, the journey starts today and you can sign up HERE. And if you just want to read the book and reflect on it yourself, here is a neat worksheet that might provide some general ideas for reflection.
Bon voyage!

that sounds fab! I don't know that I can commit to reading much right now, but I will add it to my list.
