fasting, day seven
Things that are on my mind this morning:
1. How amazing mushrooms are and why we decided we need to eat them in the first place.
2. How many euphemisms we have for menstruating. (Yes, I just went there. Get over it or find another blog to read today!) And how goofy some of them are! Oh my...
"Aunt Flo is in town."
"The Mayor has cut the ribbon to Red Town."
"I'm in my cycle."
"Red is my favorite color today."
"I have my period." And the related phrase Lacey and I developed, "I'm feeling punctuated today."
3. How quickly I can gain and lose muscle tone and strength.
4. How much I crave sugar when I need it the least in my diet, and how much it hurts my stomach when I have too much of it.
5. How yummy water can be.

Wow. This morning has been extra fun because not only is it dawn...but I got to read your blog. I have no idea where you are in the world but I also am a Bahai, also work at Starbucks and also LOVE the Decemberists "The Crane Wife" album. We must be twins. :) There's something comforting about knowing someone else will be serving Decaf triple tall nonfat extra foamy lattes today while eyeing those vanilla cupcakes and trying to keep the spirit of the fast :)

exactly, kari! that's weird to me too.
and glenn - without treading dangerously close to "tmi," i decided to fast anyway because although i might be exempt i may choose. and, fortunately, it's more like a 3-day period of time vs. a week. that's a cool thing. glad you passed your kidney stone and i hope you're doing ok!

I've met people whose cycle is more like a stationary bike.
Oddly enough, it was not until my sister first started her menses that I had any idea what it was. My mother had a hysterectomy before I could even read, so I never was around "feminine products".
Enjoy your one week-ish abstention, and say that substitute prayer.

How 'bout a line from one of my favorite movies, Clueless?
Cher: "Mr. Hall, I was surfin' the crimson wave, and had to haul a** to the ladies room".
Mr. Hall: "I will assume you are speaking of 'women's troubles', and will excuse your tardy."
