hm, well, you see...
A really cool thing is happening outside my office window right now. The sun is shining (which is amazing in and of itself), it is lightly snowing, and the net result is that every now and then a gently falling snowflake catches the sun for a split second and sparkles as it descends. It's like showering glitter everywhere! Amazing!
Lacey, Nas and I were talking this morning about how the snow that had accumulated overnight looked so fake this morning. It hadn't compacted yet, so it was super fluffy and almost looked like the fake snow they use in movies. What I love about fluffy snow, though, is you can see the individual flakes and all their intricate designs. In the most corny way possible, I mentioned how it STILL blows my mind that every snowflake is unique. EVERY snowflake!! Unbelievable! Of course, they just laughed at me. Silly mortals...
Hopefully, the snow is sticking around. I know - not the most popular wish in Chicago these days. But we are not-so-secretly planning a SLEDDING DAY next Saturday (because some of us will be busy or out of town this Saturday) and we need snow for that. The agenda will look something like this, thanks to the masterful planning of Kari and Tiff:
1. wake up
2. have bagels, cream cheese and oj for breakfast
3. drive to Wisconsin
4. sled for a bit
5. have some hot cocoa and lunch
6. sled some more - maybe engage in a snowball fight or two
7. have a second cup of hot cocoa
8. drive home
9. bask in the glory of having had the most fun day evah!
Yeah. It's like that.

Yeah, it's a good thing winter lasts until JUNE here, so there will be plenty of sledding ops. Bee hee.

I don't know which I love about you more, your ability to create the excitement surrounding sledding, or your incredible attention to detail when describing the snowflakes!! I guess I am in an enviable position, being your husband and all. HEHE

Our sleds races would get out of hand. Whenever it snows in Tennessee--even half an inch--schools close. If it sticks around long enough we're out there on 'bodysleds' since there's no way runner sleds would work. I learned this the hard way by trying a runner sled with my cousin riding on top of my back. The runners stuck in the mud at the top, but she succeeded in using my face as a sled the rest of the way down.
What's a bodysled? Long story, but essentially my Dad bought a warehouse full of surplus BodySlides(tm) back in the 90's to assemble and sell to Singapore. There were alot of the nylon/rubber sheets left over, which incidentally make a low-friction sled that will even slide on wet grass. I guarantee we were hitting 30mph at the bottom. The best was when there was enough snow to blow up over the top of the sledder. It looked like underground snowgophers racing downhill.

Yay! I miss sleding, count me in. We used to play this game when my friends and I would sled. (I'm sure many people played the same game) Five or six kids cram onto a sled. The sled is launched down the hill at a rapid velocity. The one person who manages to remain in the sled until it reaches the bottom wins. There can only be ONE!
