focus, focus
Two questions.
One:
What do you answer to "So, what's new and exciting?" when the most new and exciting thing in your life is the realization that Minnie Driver is now a (WHAT??) musical performer?
Corollary to this question: does one ALWAYS have to have something "new and exciting" happening in his/her life in order to be considered cool or remotely interesting and therefore worthy of continuing conversation?
Two:
How, exactly, does one get out of dodge if he/she has never been in dodge? Or even knows where dodge is?
Madness, I tell you. Madness.

can i tell a fort story and also use this as an opportunity to brag about my tomboyishness?
my cousins lived next door to my grandparents in st. paul, minnesota. there was supposed to have been an alley cut behind the houses. but, alas, that development never happened. so each house had the equivalent of two yards behind it. basically, the cousins and i had an entire, private park at our disposal. it was perfect for baseball games, the digging of army trenches, easter egg hunts, fashion shows, what have you. and none of these activities bothered each other, unless the aim of a particular afternoon was specifically to bother each other.
anyway, there was also a chicken house in that yard, built by my great grandparents, who originally bought the land. and on top of the chicken house there was a fort, made of cardboard boxes.
and i was THE only girl allowed in the fort. in fact i was THE only girl allowed to ascend the stairs... wooden planks nailed to the side of the chicken house. of all of us cousins, there was only one boy. so it was a very exclusive position to be the only girl allowed up there.
it was there that my cuz and his cute friend, david schlunt, taught me about baseball cards, how GI Joe could steathily attack Barbie and how un-cool NKOTB was. really after only one week of fandom and one visit to the fort, i was very quickly cured of any love i might have developed for the New Kids. all brian and david schlunt had to do was look at me, tell me "the new kids are stupid" and that was that. i argued once, but they persisted. and david schlunt was just cute enough to hold power over my pop culture-related opinions.
for some reason i really like saying, thinking and typing the name david schlunt. isn't it a fun name? try saying it once. or twice.

I feel the need to share a pointless story: Richard is correct. Dodge is in Kansas (it's actually called 'Dodge City'). In my backyard growing up, my dog Fluffy (a tiny pekingese) preferred to relieve herself in a particular patch of grass nearby our shed. This grass, it seemed, was of a different breed than the rest of the yard, and she aparently really liked it. Anyway, whenever us kids would have to go to the shed, or the fort (we had a big ole tree fort in our yard), we'd need to pass through this patch of grass, which was riddled with...um...yeah. We had to *DODGE* the dog messes, which comprised a small, specific area--a *CITY* if you will. Soon, we all referred to this patch of grass as "Dodge City", and warned all our friends to be careful there whenever they were in the backyard. So yeah. That's my story. It's times like this that you're glad that you have a blog, eh? Otherwise, I'd never have shared this story with you.

ok, i dunno about dodge, but minnie driver's "musical career" is funny and a good candidate for sharing new and exciting things...
D, I think with people who have strong personalities or are fairly social (like yourself), everyone always expects something fun and interesting out of you. being that you a) may not always have something personally interesting to share, and/or b) may not feel particularly inclined to talk about your life to anyone and everyone, i think minnie driver is a good candidate for sharing.
such things are not about you and are thus already refreshing in the sea of small talk, and they're unique and funny. so go for it... end the madness. :)

another possibility i thought of was that a friend of mine (aka bud) is currently on jeopardy. that's pretty damn exciting if you ask me!

okay. so from my perspective, the "minnie driver" tid bit is a perfect response to a question about newness and excitement in life. because,
a. it's funny.
b. not everyone is aware of minnie drivers musical... drive.
c. it tells us something about what Delara finds intriguing.
and d. it's funny.

Dodge is actually in Kansas. Used to have some workshop stuff there. We have at least addressed part of one of your questions.
