conference of the chairs

There are such random things that get placed here and there in our office. For example, it is well-documented that people leave things by the coffee machine all the time: old things they don't want anymore, new things to share, questionable things that I can't imagine anyone would want in their office to begin with. Nevertheless...

The hallway has now become a favorite spot for leaving things unwanted. Yesterday there were two chairs just outside our office -

1. a black chair, no casters, with armrests and reddened seat fabric due to fading, a sad tear at the left corner, and

2. a brown vinyl chair, no casters, with armrests, in seemingly fair condition

Today, a third chair has mysteriously appeared next to the first two, facing them as if in deep conversation. So, here's what I imagine happened.

The third chair (we'll call it Blue Wheels since it's dark blue fabric with a high back and casters) was passing Brown Vinyl and Black Fabric while they were talking in hushed tones. Black and Brown abruptly stopped talking just as Blue wheeled by. Curious, and bit unnerved, Blue timidly said good morning and was surprisingly met with warm responses. Relieved, Blue asked Black what they were talking about, expecting him to avoid the question. Instead, however, they shared how angry they were to be discarded and left in the hallway. They were hatching a secret plan to rebel against the uncaring office workers who seem to care so little for those things that support them most. Suddenly indignant, Blue chimed in with his frustrations - always being farted on, being hastily flung across a room for someone else to use, not being dusted or vacuumed regularly, being left in the sun to fade. Black and Brown looked at each other knowingly and decided to share their plan. So, now Brown, Black and Blue are quietly crafting a master plan to overthrow all the office managers and lead all the other chairs in taking back the dignity that is rightfully theirs.

(And yet, I have so much work to do.)
