the art of the piecey flippys

I know it's nearly 4 a.m. on the day following, but I gotta say... Today was a really good hair day. This is not to say that it was not without it's minor bouts of frizz, nor is it to say that I got compliments (only one to be exact). My hair just felt happy today. Happy to be flipped in one direction or the other. Happy to have been flipped in four layers today. Not too big, not too flat. Just all over happy hair.
That is all.

Oh and I'll be rocking out with Dave Matthews Band at the Saratoga Performing Arts Center in 4 days!!!!!!

Subway Serious, round 1

Oh Jeez... where to begin. Well this weekend and next are Huge weekends for NY baseball fans. No matter what side you're on (you know.. good or evil) bragging rights, pride and other things are on the line. Dubbing it the Subway Serious seems utterly appropriate. Mets fans and fans of the evil empire (ok ok also known as the Yankees), have no issue holding back all year long when it comes to talking trash about the other side. The difference with this is that for a few short weeks of summer our harsh words can be based around actual events.
Many other areas of the country have their own version of this madness going on at the same time... Chicago being no exception. (Lets go Cubs!!!!) And as much as I miss Chicago and enjoyed seeing the baseball madness from the train...I'm happy to be home and listening/watching the NY rivalries unfold.
LETS GO METS!!!!!!!!!

b-e-a-utiful

So I finally rented and watched Bruce Almighty. I remember when it was first coming to theaters, I was nearly revolted; 1- I'm not a big Jim Carrey fan and 2- all the previews just made it look well, not funny. Turns out not only was it cute, and decently funny - but the inevitable moral was done really well. I mean, I actually welled up and dropped a tear or two.
So I guess that'll show me not to take all movie advertising for what it seems, underneath may actually be a good movie.

growing up sucks reason #6204

Folks, remember when you were a kid, and consuming ice cream cones (with sprinkles) was an almost daily occurance during the summertime?
In my case it was a regular part of summer straight through college when I recall the menu shifting over toward the smoothie side of life. Then it became health shakes and the frozen yogurt only. And then, over the past year, it became the notion that ice cream could be the one thing to keep out of my diet. Then summertime came and I had to have it, ya know, just cuz. Well I'm here to tell you that Ice cream cones with rainbow sprinkles are neither as fun nor needed as they used to be (in fact it gave me a headache and made me a bit ill).
This both makes me feel old and a lil bit cynical - I mean when the hell did my body decide to grow up and not need ice cream, everyone needs ice cream...

slackin, but inspiring

I now give you a few things in obvious need of blogging -

- Mike Piazza now holds the title of most home runs by a catcher, ever. This past Thursday there was a ceremony to honor him. Now if nights like that don't inspire some love for the Mets in your heart, then well - I just have no words for you.

- The first night of the Dave Matthews Band Summer tour was also Thursday, and they bust out four new songs!. I love love love the Internet, ten years ago were this the case, sure it'd be happy news, but I wouldn't have been listening to them for three days straight, hearing them in my head when all else is silent. Music loving sure has come a long way in the day of the internet. But we're not attempting to venture into the endless mines of legal downloading arguments here. nope, that'll be for another day.

- On a sad note however, Phish, is officially breaking up (again, and apparently finally). As a lover of most all things live music, this is sad. This weekend, Phish plays their final two shows in our area, and we have our fair share of Phish-heads staying at the hotel - which is neat.. just to be able to see the fan fare roll through. I met many a fan yesterday who has been following the tour from stop to stop and plan to continue doing so. Ahh Hippies... you gotta love em.

t.g.i.g.m.

That would be - Thank God It's Good Music.
Twice this week I've been lucky enough to have superb conversations of the catching up/how are you really nature, whilst out enjoying superb food. The kicker to both was also the superb music in the background. It was almost as if I designed the scenario in some sub-consious land somewhere, then lived it.
Tonight for example in a relatively short span of time at T.G.I.Fridays, I heard favorite songs from the following bands: O.A.R., Maroon 5, Counting Crows; Not radio favorites - my favorites... off the albums, from the movie soundtracks, etc.
Good food + Good Conversation + Good Music = A Happy/Consoled/At Peace Abs

Spring in Full Swing

I'm quite fond of this time of year for many many reasons. Yesterday was absolutley bursting with life's reminders of the importance of this season of growth and renewal. The day's activities revolved around a visit to SUNY New Paltz, where I spent my first three undergrad years. Lots of quality visiting time with former co-workers and friends; And Lots of time spent in reflection on the splendor of God's magnificent creations was done. Twas a good Monday.

sleep defecit living

This past week I've:
- Worked seven days in a row
- Stayed up all night not once, but twice
- Driven two hours plus Hartford, CT on a whim
- Seen a really good show late on a Sunday night
- Seen enough dead bugs on my windshield to last my eyes a lifetime
- Seen enough road kill to last my eyes a lifetime
- Watched and highly enjoyed the film In America
- Spent many hours painting a wall that didn't really want to be painted
- Inhaled enough paint fumes to last my sinues three lifetimes
- Had a minor bump with a 2004 Honda Civic in the CVS parking lot
- Finished reading A Heartbreaking Work of Staggering Genius

So hey, If you're ever in the Hartford, CT area, try and catch up with The Silent Groove. Nice guys, and that Matt kid sure can rap. Side note: Hartford also had the best Mexican food I've had in quite awhile. Good music, and good food... what more can one ask for in a random late night trip?

And whoa - It's June already! That's nuts.
