yesterday, please stay far away

The other day I was showing Shawn my Pez dispenser collection and found the urge to keep digging in the boxes holding pictures and momentos from High School and before. Ahhhh Jeez. Came across the prom pictures, the ex-boyfriend box-turned- random stuff box, even came across my cookie monster rattle circa 1980, year of my birth.
That night I so happened to run into someone from my high school class at the local video store. *gasp*, Ew, ugh.
Turns out three people from my graduating class live only a few blocks away from me. High School (HFCS) is about an hour north of here, and Albany tis the state capital, and where a lot of people end up when in search of home away from small town home, but still - ew. And I say that in the nicest, I have no truly endearing or fond memories of my high school years, kind of way.
Further proof of the lingering I dont like re-visiting a past that I dont have any attachment to feeling --- I find myself looking over my shoulder in the stores and on the local roads this week.
I know I'm just being crazy - but awkward run-ins aren't really ever on my list of things to do on any given day. Also crazy is that ever-present distaste for how far you've come since graduating high school. Granted these people are no "farther" ahead in "life" than I, but I, for one, am never really up for a reminder of where I wanted to be by now. (Read: Not living in my parent's basement in Albany).
