currency in a bankrupt world

Tomorrow night ABC is showing my favorite movie to it's national audience. Some movies, in my humble opinion, were not meant to be on television, with commercials to kill the buzz.

Great movies are being commericialized way too quickly lately for my tastes. Another prime example is the fact that Big Fish is due to hit Video Stores everywhere next week. Dude, what happened to the days of a few month gap between theater and video?! I suppose we can chalk this up to the DVD and all it's new fangled wonders. The DVD has given movie power houses the ability to over package and over sell, thus making a film worth more money after the fact than during it's original run. Makes me sad. Films are supposed to be a sacred art, and a medium through which endless stories, feelings and memories are brought to life. Please don't tell me I'm supposed to find that in all the extra features for which I pay the twenty bucks to own on the dvd in addition to the film I enjoyed so much the first time I wanted to buy it.

I wonder what Lester Bangs would say about the state of theater to video sales we have today. Though his forte was rock music, I can just imagine he'd give us a good verbal kick for commercializing our art.

Whoa! I totally watched that on TV the other night when I was being a bum a mi casa. It was weird, I admit to watch it with commericals. However, I feel like there was some additional scenes or something. Or maybe scenes I had forgotten. Anyways...

Oh, and I also saw a commerical for Big Fish which watching it.

Weird.
